Green-Cheeked Conures are active, energetic birds with specific nutritional needs. A proper GCC diet supports their vibrant plumage, strong immunity, and playful personality.

Base Diet: Quality Pellets

A high-quality pelleted diet should form 60-70% of your GCC's daily intake. Choose pellets formulated for small parrots. Offer 1.5-2 tablespoons daily.

Fresh Vegetables and Fruits

Fresh vegetables should make up 20-25% of the diet:

  • Dark leafy greens — Kale, broccoli, dandelion greens
  • Orange vegetables — Carrot, sweet potato (cooked), pumpkin
  • Other vegetables — Bell peppers, zucchini, peas, green beans
  • Fruits (moderation) — Apple (no seeds), banana, berries, papaya. Limit to 5%

[warning]A seed-only diet leads to obesity and nutritional deficiencies. Seeds should be limited to 10-15% of total intake.

Foods to Avoid

  • Avocado — Highly toxic
  • Chocolate and caffeine
  • Onion and garlic
  • Salt and high-fat human foods
  • Apple seeds and fruit pits

Supplements

Always provide a cuttlebone for calcium. Fresh water should be changed at least twice daily. Most GCCs on a balanced diet do not need additional supplements.

Proper nutrition keeps your GCC healthy and vibrant for 15-30 years.
