Beagle Coat Basics

The Beagle has a short, dense, weather-resistant double coat that's relatively low-maintenance. Their classic tricolor pattern (black, white, and tan) is iconic, though they come in several color combinations.

Regular Brushing

Brush your Beagle 2-3 times per week with a medium-bristle brush or rubber grooming mitt. This removes loose hair, distributes natural oils, and keeps the coat healthy. During shedding seasons, increase to daily brushing.

Ear Care is Critical

Beagles' floppy ears need special attention. Check ears weekly for redness, odor, or debris. Clean with a vet-approved ear solution and cotton ball — never use cotton swabs inside the ear canal.

Bathing

Bathe your Beagle every 6-8 weeks or when visibly dirty. Use a gentle, dog-specific shampoo. Over-bathing strips natural oils and can cause skin irritation.

Nail and Dental Care

Trim nails every 2-3 weeks. Brush teeth 2-3 times per week with dog-specific toothpaste. Dental disease is common and can lead to serious health issues.
