Rottweilers have a short, easy-to-maintain coat that belies their moderate shedding. With regular grooming, your Rottweiler will look polished and feel their best.
Coat Care
Rottweilers have a medium-length double coat that lies flat against their body. The outer coat is straight and coarse; the undercoat is soft and dense. Brush 2-3 times weekly with a slicker brush or rubber grooming tool.
They shed moderately year-round with heavier seasonal "blowing" of the undercoat twice a year. During shedding season, increase brushing to daily to manage loose hair.
Bathing
Bathe your Rottweiler every 6-8 weeks or when visibly dirty. Use a gentle, dog-specific shampoo. Their black coat shows dirt and dust less than lighter breeds, but regular bathing keeps the coat healthy and shiny.
Nail & Ear Care
Trim nails every 2-3 weeks. Large, active dogs may wear nails down naturally, but most Rottweilers need regular trimming. Long nails affect gait and can contribute to joint problems.
Check ears weekly for redness, odor, or debris. Clean with a vet-approved solution. Rottweilers have pendant ears that can trap moisture.
