Ragdolls are generally healthy cats with a lifespan of 12-17 years. However, they have some breed-specific health concerns that responsible owners should monitor.
Heart Disease (HCM)
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is the most serious health concern for Ragdolls. A specific mutation (MyBPC3) has been identified in the breed. Responsible breeders test for this gene.
Regular cardiac screening helps detect issues early. Watch for lethargy, rapid breathing, or sudden weight loss.
Urinary Issues
Ragdolls can be prone to bladder stones and urinary tract issues. Ensure proper hydration through wet food and water fountains. Discuss urinary health diets with your vet.

Obesity
